in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., waters were expected to crest at nearly 41 feet by early Friday, more than 18 feet above flood stage. Officials issued mandatory evacuation orders for about half of the city’s 40,000 residents and asked businesses to close by midday Thursday. It was unclear how many left, but a spokesman for Mayor Thomas M. Leighton called Wilkes-Barre a “ghost town.” Another 80,000 people were ordered to evacuate from areas surrounding the city. - New York Times 9/9/2011

Wilkes-Barre's controversial tow-truck maven Leo Glodzik III is headed to trial on some pretty serious assault charges. According to Back Mountain police, Glodzik had a bit of a meltdown while they attempted to get a mandatory blood sample after Glodzik was detained for possibly driving under the influence. In classic macho-man fashion, Glodzik head-butted a cop in the E.R.

According to the Citizens' Voice, Glodzik's lawyer Joseph F. Sklarosky Sr., plans a novel defense for the copiously tattooed Glodzik:

"Sklarosky said last year Glodzik was simply squirming at the hospital because he fears needles." - Citizens' Voice
